The Sparks began their journey in 2011 when several teachers and students wanted to resolve the issue of the lack of STEM activities in their school. After much discussion, the best way that would fill the void was a robotics team because of its hands-on and multi-disciplinary nature.
Since then, members of the Sparks have been prominent student advocates for STEM, both in their school and their community. As an all-girls team, the Sparks aspire to introduce other girls to the STEM field through workshops, presentations, and other methods of outreach. "What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?" is our team motto, which is inspired by a TED Talk given by Regina Dugan (former Director and Head of DARPA). These words embody our team philosophy. We believe in taking risks and striving for the ideal, not the realistic. At times, we are successful, while other times we are not, but failure is an important aspect in achieving something great. As a team, we aim in keeping a positive mentality in order to grow, learn, and reach our full potential. |
