This past weekend, the Sparks Robotics team had their first weekend practice! The Sparks have made great strides with the intake, shooter, arm, and CAD. This weekend, Vivian switched the slower motors to the faster motors for the shooter. However, they were still not spinning fast enough. We are now looking into new and faster orders to complete this. Kathryn worked on the bike chain for the intake. With a new bike chain, she was able to add a motor to it. Sarah continued to build the arm after struggling to understand how to make the arm hinge many times. The challenges she encountered were some of the gears weren’t spinning and the arm wasn’t hinging. Brittney finished the CAD. She sent her finished STL file over to Coach Testa for 3D printing. The Sparks made great progress all around this weekend!

Welcome to our first blog in 2020!
The Sparks team #4936 is attending FIRST Robotics Competition, season of 2020-2021, and our team will update our new progress & events from now on. About Our Team The Sparks team is an all-girls team that was established in 2011, when several teachers and students decided to introduce more STEM activities to their school. It encourages students to participate in the STEM field through workshops, presentations and other events. What Is FTC? The FTC is a robotics competition that welcomes high-school teams from all over the world. Each year, students are asked to build a robot to complete the annual tasks. For this season, the robots are expected to launch rings into different tower goals and deliver the wobble goals to the target zones. What Are We Doing? Now we are in the process of designing the robot. In the previous several meetings, we introduced robotics components to our new teammates, watched robot demos and videos, started to CAD and planned to print some components with 3D printers. Most importantly, we will revive our social media accounts. We will restart our activities on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook! We are facing a lot of alterations this year due to COVID-19, but we will work it out through our effort and cooperation as a team. We will update more information about our activities in the future. Sparks Team #4936, October 7 2020 This years season has begun with a great start! We have a total of three new team members as well as a new coach! We began our season as soon as school started, as this year robotics is built into our schedule and is an official class. In addition to meetings during school, we also meet after school regularly. Kickoff this year was educational and fun, we learned about Java, the programming language FTC is moving to, and connected with other area teams. When the game was revealed we were astonished by how challenging it seemed to be, but we were excited to take on this challenge! We are excited to see how this season will progress and how we will take on this years game!
